A throttle body is a butterfly valve that sits between the intake manifold and filter. The further you press down on the accelerator pedal, the more air the throttle body releases into your engine, which in turn generates more power. It works with the aid of a throttle plate inside it. When you press the pedal, the plate spins and opens the throttle passage, releasing air. An airflow sensor measures this change in air pressure and the engine control unit commands the system to release more fuel. This maintains the air-fuel ratio required to generate an appropriate level of power.
