The condition of wiper blades on a car is often overlooked by drivers. With the UK’s reputation for drizzles and downpours it is important that you pay close attention to these small, but essential, parts of your vehicle. After all, not being able to see where you’re driving is very dangerous.
Wiper blades usually last between 6-12 months, depending on the weather conditions. With winter approaching fast it is even more important to check and if necessary replace your wiper blades. But what are the signs that you should look out for?
Streaking
If you see streaks across your windshield whilst trying to clear your windscreen this could be the first sign that you need to replace your wiper blades.
Juddering
Juddering is a sign that the blade isn’t running smoothly across the surface of your windscreen. If there is any hint of your wiper blades juddering or jumping whilst trying to clear your windscreen of rain or snow you should look to replace them as soon as possible.
Split Rubber
If the rubber on the blade is coming away from the arm, it won’t be very effective in clearing water or snow from the windscreen. If you notice the rubber is trailing behind the blade during use you should change the blade at the earliest opportunity.
Top Tip for Winter
Avoid using your wiper blades to clear snow and ice from your windscreen in the morning. Ice is quite abrasive and will cause damage to the rubber of the wiper blade, shortening its lifespan.
