SKF Tensioner Timing Belt
The timing belt tensioner applies a constant force on the timing belt to ensure it is always in contact with both the cam and crankshaft. Automatic tensioners require the removal of a pin once fitted to automatically provide tension to the belt, whereas manual tensions require the fitter to correctly tension the belt on a slide mechanism before fixing in place.
Timing tensioners should be part of your preventative maintenance programme, replacing them at the same time as the timing belt. Even if they are in working condition at the time of belt fitment, there is no guarantee they will not fail later on.
